The Lake District is England’s largest and by far the UK’s most popular national park. Every year, some 19 million people pitch up to explore the region’s mountains and countryside, and it’s not hard to see why. Its postcard panorama of craggy hilltops, mountain tarns and glittering lakes has been stirring the imaginations of visitors for centuries. Since 2017 the Lake District has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, joining the likes of the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China and the Grand Canyon on the illustrious list and is the UK’s first national park to be given the status.
On this trip, we will hike the Lake District’s Southern and North Western Fells (or mountains). On Saturday, we will do an exciting horseshoe route along the ridge to the very popular summit of the Old Man of Coniston at 803 meters, with magical panoramic views. On Sunday, we’ll do what is possibly the most scenic walk in the North Western area of the Lake District. This classic ridge walk will take us around the beautiful pastoral Newlands Valley past the iconic peak of Cat Bells, from which we’ll be able to enjoy some of the best views in the Lake District.
On Saturday night, after the hike we’re going to enjoy a relaxing evening and delicious BBQ dinner 🍖 in a wonderfully remote mountain setting with magnificent views over some of the most rugged fells in the Lake District!
Note: All pictures were taken during our previous Lake District tours.
