The Snowdonia National Park boasts vast areas of natural beauty and unique scenery. It is known as ‘Eryri’ in Welsh, a name that can be translated as ‘the place of the eagles’. The park which covers 838 square miles is the largest and oldest National Park in Wales, and is home to the tallest mountain in Wales and England, Mount Snowdon. There are nine mountain ranges here and they cover over half of the national park’s surface. Some of the peaks reach over 3000 feet (915m).
On the first day of the trip, the walk includes a very rewarding scramble, with the use of our hands, to the top of Tryfan (918m), one of the most iconic mountains in Wales, which is as ‘must do’ as Snowdon. We’ll admire awe-inspiring panoramic views of the majestic peaks of the Glyderau mountain range, lakes, valleys and streams. We will see and take some unique pictures of the twin monoliths of Adam and Eve (most courageous of us can leap from one to the other!) and the famous Cannon Stone, pointing upwards at 45 degrees. After the hike, we’ll enjoy a relaxing evening at our accommodation by the lake and a very delicious BBQ dinner 🍖!
On the second day, we will complete a horseshoe route and conquer the two highest peaks in the Glyderau region – Glyder Fawr (1001m) and Glyder Fach (994m). Both peaks are part of the Welsh 3000s – the 15 summits in Wales over 3000ft in height. Glyder Fach boasts incredible rock formations in the form of Castell y Gwynt with its series of tall spiky rocks and the famous Cantilever – a precariously balanced rock that numerous generations have attempted to topple, but to no avail. A must do photo opportunity!
