We’re off to the Seven Sisters – a series of chalk cliffs found on the coast of East Sussex by the English Channel. They are thought to have been formed by glacier meltwater at the end of the last Ice Age (10,000 BC): the meltwater carved steep-sided valleys, which were then truncated by sea erosion into the cliffs we see today. Then we will visit Rathfinny Winery and one of the best and most beautiful English villages – Alfriston.
“As we reach the crown of the hill, a green and pleasant Sussex landscape is revealed: a sun-soaked, slanting bowl of 600 acres, protected from the prevailing winds by an escarpment of National Trust land. In the distance, blue and magnificent is the English Channel. This is Rathfinny Estate … soon to be England’s largest vineyard.” –Sunday Telegraph
Alfriston is one of 27 the most beautiful English villages surrounded by the Wealden South Downs. It sits near the eastern end of the South Downs Way where this national path splits three ways, going east, west and south, from the very centre of our historic village. Around the village, visitors can enjoy our famous church St Andrew’s church (the “Cathedral of the South Downs”), the clergy house (the National Trust’s first property) and our wide range of galleries, cafés, pubs and shops. Alfriston hosts many events throughout the year including music festivals, traditional fetes, boot fares … the list seems endless. Take a trip to Alfriston for a relaxing break exploring the historic heritage of the village and the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside.
This time we will be travelling from Eastbourne through the Seven Sisters park to Alfriston village. We will enjoy some stunning views along the coastline all the way at every stop!
Travel times may vary depending on traffic & weather conditions.
